Statement: Engine Control Module

October 6, 2015 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -  FCA US LLC is recalling an estimated 44 trucks, just one of which was believed to be in customer hands, to replace their engine control modules (ECMs).
 
A supplier advised FCA US that some of its engines may have been assembled with ECMs that were inadvertently damaged during the manufacturing process. It was then determined that a fraction of those engines may have been installed in certain trucks assembled during a 13-day period in August 2015.
 
The damage, which is slight and not readily visible, may lead to a short-circuit and engine stall. However, safety features such as air bags remain functional as long as the vehicle’s ignition key is in the “run” position.
 
FCA US is unaware of any related injuries, accidents or customer complaints.
 
The recall is limited to certain 2016 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups, and 3500, 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis trucks equipped with diesel engines; an estimated 41 are in the U.S., while the remaining vehicles are in Canada.
 
FCA US will contact the affected customer and arrange for service. All other affected vehicles are in transit or in dealer hands; regulation prohibits the sale of new vehicles that are subject to open recalls.
